Art Singapore has been held in Singapore since 2000 annually and is being held in the last quarter of the year, usually in October. It is successful because it is not only being held annually; the size of the exhibition actually increases.
From this, we know that the interest has been on the increase, but why is that so? Did the Singapore government really do such a good job promoting art that more people are starting to appreciate it.
The truth is, Singaporeans are very practical folks. In a society, where everything is about dollars and cents and every action must have a profitable reaction, there is bound to be some profitable reason for so many Singaporeans to be interested in it.
And the reason is of course the high returns that art is able to provide as an investment vehicle. Basically, when you invest in this, you are investing in the growth of the artist.
The value of your investment is in tandem to the fame of the artist. As he or she grows in reputation, so would the pieces that you have bought. And as Asia, especially South East Asia is a growing area; it is relatively easy to become famous in this region.
Collectors that purchased collections in earlier event held in Singapore, reported few thousands percentage returns. For example, a painting that is purchased for $800 in 2001 can be sold for $10000 in any auction house or galleries.
So, if you have some spare cash and is looking for another investment vehicle, this is one form that is definitely worth considering. Of course, October is a long time and if you want a preview of art in Singapore, there is another platform.
There is a Singapore Art tour organized by the Singapore explorer that would bring you to the different galleries and they have dedicated curator explaining to you the story and of the potential value of each pieces.
There you have it folks, if you are looking for an alternative investment, this is really something worth considering, don't you think so?
